Fertile Ground: Conversations That Spark Growth
Studies show that African-American Black LGBTQ individuals face disproportionate levels of health disparities and systemic barriers. Addressing these issues requires culturally competent care, improved access, and community-based support tailored to their unique needs.
The Fertile Ground "Salon", is a Washington, DC-based gathering for Black same-gender-loving (SGL) people to engage in meaningful conversations and cultural exchange. Inspired by the artists' discussion groups (Salons) of the Harlem Renaissance, we provide an alternative gathering focusing on intellectual dialogue and informative entertainment, always led by a subject matter expert. We explore topics from art, sports, and culture to politics, mental health, and spirituality. Our mission is to educate and to entertain, to create conversations that spark growth. Though this forum, we seek to create a participant-driven space that gives voice to self-advocacy, challenges systemic obstacles and affirms identities.
